‘Skills from my nursing career are supporting me as a case manager’

NR Times meets Lindsay Rowlands, case manager at AMS Case Management, who joined the business nine months ago after a background of nursing in the NHS. Here, she discusses how her past career is proving invaluable in her new one

What attracted you to become a case manager and why?

Having worked for the NHS for 20 years, I decided it was time for change. I had a conversation with an old colleague who had left some years ago and she convinced me that this would be a great job for me to do.

My years in nursing lent itself well to the qualities needed to be a case manager. I was particulary interested in the idea that we could give a client what they needed with fewer restrictions than trying to rely solely on the NHS provision for rehab at home.

What attracted you to AMS specifically?

AMS is a small firm, which attracted me as I felt that they would have the time to invest in me as well as our clients. I thought that it would be more than just numbers on a spreadsheet, and after my interview I was even more convinced that this was the company I wanted to work for.

The team are so supportive of each other and the case managers are so passionate about what they do.

What makes AMS a stand-out name in the marketplace?

I think AMS stands out for me because of the passion they have in the work they do. They have experienced case managers and a great support network with the assistants and admin.

Keeping things on a smaller scale means that people don’t slip through the cracks, each client gets the benefit of the expertise offered by the AMS team.

AMS believe in a holistic approach and the families of the clients benefit from the support this offers for them, as well as the client.

Would you recommend a career in case management and why?

I would recommend a career in case management, in the short time I have done it I have learnt new skills, and I feel that I will continue to grow.

No two days are the same. It has allowed me to use the skills and knowledge from my nursing to provide positive outcomes for the clients and their families.
