Come and join one of the UK’s largest providers in complex care. We proudly employ over 4000+ people - no matter what your experience, we have jobs for everyone.

Are you ready to take your expertise in neurorehabilitation to the next level and help shape a pioneering service? Our Birmingham centre is transitioning to Active Neuro, the newly launched division of Active Care Group, providing specialist rehabilitation for adults across the UK living with neurological conditions caused by injury, illness, or disease. We are dedicated to helping every person we support feel safe, happy, and empowered—enabling them to live their best possible life. Active Neuro has made significant investments in refurbishing the service and introducing state-of-the-art robotic technology, including the Luna EMG Premium and the ExoMotus M4, giving therapists the tools to deliver intensive, goal-oriented rehabilitation tailored to each individual. Here, recovery is not just about restoring function—it’s about rebuilding independence, confidence, and quality of life. We support NHS, private, and medicolegal clients, and unlike many services, we are not limited by short timeframes. This enables longer-term, meaningful goal setting—whether that’s returning to hobbies, social activities, creative pursuits, or everyday life tasks. We are also expanding into outpatient pathways, ensuring continuity of care for those who no longer require inpatient rehabilitation, and offering support to the wider community. As our Lead Occupational Therapist, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the service—developing clinical pathways, introducing innovative approaches, and inspiring a multidisciplinary team. We value your expertise and creativity, giving you the freedom to contribute ideas, influence service development, and help drive innovation. You’ll also benefit from strong peer support, cross-site collaboration, and partnerships with organisations such as Headway and the Spinal Injuries Association, alongside personalised CPD opportunities and access to conferences and networking events. If you are passionate about making a tangible difference, leading a team, and delivering holistic, person-centred care, this is your chance to be at the forefront of neurorehabilitation in the UK. Please note: this advert will close once we have received a sufficient number of applications. The role: This is a part-time role, perfect for those with other commitments who still want to make a meaningful contribution to neurorehabilitation. You’ll have the flexibility to balance your professional and personal responsibilities while being fully involved in shaping innovative rehabilitation programmes, supporting our clients’ long-term recovery, and making a real difference in people’s lives. As our Lead Occupational Therapist, you will:
  • Lead and manage the Occupational Therapy team, ensuring effective delivery of the highly specialist Occupational Therapy service
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner to plan and prioritise a complex clinical caseload
  • Work closely with clients and their family/carers to encourage participation in the therapeutic process
  • Provide supervision, teaching, and appraisal for junior occupational therapists, assistants, students and other members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service
  • Develop Occupational therapy Treatment programmes in collaboration with clients, carers and other involved professionals (e.g. occupational therapy assistants, support workers) to be carried out as appropriate
  • Participating in clinical audit, clinical risk and quality issues, including the management and reporting of incidents
  • Ensure a high level of communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in the process of positively supporting and inspiring colleagues within the service to improve standards and quality and to develop professional practice
  • Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights
About you: We are looking for an experienced and compassionate professional who:
  • Is HCPC registered
  • Brings extensive experience in neurological rehabilitation or related complex care settings
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills, inspiring and motivating a multidisciplinary team

Come and join one of the UK’s largest independent providers in neuro and mental healthcare. We proudly employ over 4000+ people - no matter what your experience, we have jobs for everyone.

Active Neuro, the newly launched division of Active Care Group, is transforming neurorehabilitation in the UK—and we’re looking for a Specialist Occupational Therapist (Band 6 equivalent) to join our team in Birmingham, supporting adults with acquired or traumatic brain injury, neurological conditions, and complex needs, helping them regain independence, confidence, and quality of life. We’re investing in our existing service to make a real difference for our clients. You’ll have access to cutting-edge rehabilitation technology such as Luna Robotic EMG, Exo Motus, and Arm Motus to support integrated, creative therapy approaches. With the freedom to focus on long-term, person-centred goals, you can help clients achieve things that really matter to them—whether that’s baking a cake, rediscovering a passion for art, or gardening independently. You’ll be part of a highly supportive network, collaborating with peers across Active Neuro, sharing expertise, and benefiting from mentorship. There’s also a strong focus on professional development, with personalised CPD tailored to your interests—whether that’s functional rehab, cognitive and perceptual retraining, ADL recovery, or neuropsychologically-informed practice. Being part of Active Neuro also gives you access to internal and external professional networks, including opportunities to collaborate with organisations such as Headway and the Spinal Injuries Association, attend conferences, and engage with wider innovations in neurorehabilitation. If you’re a creative, motivated Occupational Therapist who wants to make a genuine, lasting impact and help shape a pioneering service, this is the opportunity for you. Please note - this advert will close once we have received a sufficient number of applications. The role: As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Deliver evidence-based occupational therapy interventions for individuals with complex neurological needs.
  • Manage a varied caseload, providing specialist OT input tailored to individual goals.
  • Keep up to date with current treatment approaches and contribute to service improvement initiatives within your specialist area.
  • Support the integration of specialist rehabilitation technologies into everyday practice, aligned with our 24-hour rehabilitation model.
  • Participate in audits and assist with monitoring and evaluating service effectiveness.
  • Work collaboratively with MDT colleagues to ensure coordinated, person-centred care.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior staff when needed, especially in complex cases.
  • Follow and promote risk management and safety procedures consistently.
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships with colleagues, visitors, and carers.
  • Contribute to quality improvement projects, outcome measurement, and clinical governance activities.
About you: We're looking for a skilled, compassionate professional with:
  • HCPC registration.
  • Post-qualification experience in neurorehabilitation or complex care (including ABI/TBI).
  • Well-developed clinical reasoning skills and a commitment to person-centred practice.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Enthusiasm for developing skills, embracing innovation, and contributing to service improvement.

In this role, you’ll work with clients at varying stages of their rehabilitation journey, focusing on restoring function, independence, and quality of life. • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs), providing Occupational Therapy expertise to support comprehensive assessments, care planning, and exceptional care delivery for those in our service.
  • Design and implement personalised and group-based Occupational Therapy programs tailored to individual needs.
  • Play a key role in the efficient functioning of MDTs by performing essential tasks such as liaising with families, attending and documenting CPAs, and taking minutes for meetings.
  • Support the training and development of care staff and other team members, promoting a strong foundation of Occupational Therapy principles within care practices.
  • Actively contribute to the service’s therapy team by sharing insights, exchanging information, and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records, assisting in the generation of high-quality management reports across the service.
  • Foster and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues, visitors, carers, and members of the MDT to ensure seamless collaboration and care delivery.
  • Keep people safe from any harm and protect their human rights.
About you: You’ll be a motivated, compassionate, and forward-thinking Occupational Therapist, ideally with some experience or a strong interest in neurological rehabilitation. You don’t need to be an expert yet — we’ll support you to build confidence and competence through structured supervision, mentoring, and exposure to complex cases.
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience within a neurorehabilitation setting would be an advantage
  • Passionate about rehabilitation, recovery, and person-centred care
  • Keen to develop specialist skills in neurorehabilitation within a supportive, multi-disciplinary environment
  • A team player with good communication and organisational skills
  • Curious, reflective, and open to learning — with a genuine drive to make a difference in people’s lives
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS

We are seeking an experienced clinician with expertise in the provision of community-based neurorehabilitation to head up a new branch of our independent interdisciplinary service in the Midlands.  Whether you are by professional background a neuropsychologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, or speech and language therapist, this is an exciting and well-supported opportunity to bring your clinical and leadership skills to developing and directing an interdisciplinary team which provides gold standard rehabilitation to our clients.   Cognivate Midlands will work closely with our established team in the South-East, drawing on their expertise, our outstanding board of advisors, and a responsive operational infrastructure. You’ll receive professional supervision and funded CPD opportunities to help you thrive, including conference attendance and relevant training.  Your success in growing the team’s provision will be reflected in a competitive remuneration package which is commensurate with your experience. As the caseload grows there will be the potential to increase your FTE should you wish to do so, though this is by no means a requirement.  BACKGROUND  Cognivate South-East was founded by our CEO (Prof Jane Powell, Clinical Neuropsychologist) in 2021 with the vision of bringing into the independent sector the gold standard interdisciplinary provision which has been developed within the NHS. Until then, most privately funded rehabilitation was undertaken by separate freelance therapists, with little systematic communication or co-ordination.  The majority of Cognivate’s rehabilitation programmes are funded in the medicolegal context under the Rehabilitation Code, which means that they are often very well-resourced and facilitated by case managers [CMs]. Over the last five years, we have forged strong relationships with several large CM companies, as well as individual CMs, who are impressed with our joined-up approach to their clients’ rehabilitation and refer to us regularly. As a result we are often asked whether we can work with other clients whose homes are in the Midlands, particularly those who would benefit from an interdisciplinary approach. We are now in a position to respond to this demand by recruiting a new team of therapists who live anywhere in the Midlands, are enthused by the prospect of working as a team in clients’ own homes and local communities, and are able to travel in order to do so. As here in the south, some therapists will be directly employed as core team members and others will be independent associates who become part of bespoke teams for individual clients - all embedded in a shared client-centred and goal-focused rehabilitation programme which is shaped by high levels of communication.  As the service is domiciliary, there is no office base. All staff will work from their own homes, with travel time to see clients fully included in their employment hours. Clinical meetings will typically be undertaken remotely, but we will provide resources to enable additional regular face-to-face get-togethers for team bonding, service development, and social events.  THE REGIONAL CLINICAL LEAD (MIDLANDS) APPOINTMENT  The Regional Clinical Lead (Midlands) will be our first employed role, and will work collaboratively with our senior team in the south to appoint other staff (core and associate), develop relationships with case managers who operate in the region, and promote the new service. This will entail attending networking events and conferences, and speaking directly with potential commissioners (CMs, lawyers, other health professionals).   As and when therapists join the team, you will be responsible for establishing a friendly and supportive working environment, for developing effective communication systems, for managing staff, and for overseeing the team’s overall caseload to ensure that all provision is high quality. There will be funding and resources to facilitate in-service training and CPD for the team and individual staff. You will yourself carry a modest caseload, balanced with your managerial responsibilities, and will have access to professional supervision.  We will provide any training and ongoing guidance you need in relation to the medicolegal context of Cognivate’s rehabilitation programmes. Please note that neither you nor any of the therapists on the team is ever expected to provide expert witness reports, though this is now a possibility for neuropsychologists who may be interested in doing so.  You will not be expected to shoulder these responsibilities single-handedly!
