Slater and Gordon named Top Fundraiser for The Push

A team from Slater and Gordon has been named top fundraisers in a gruelling challenge to sustain the vital work of a charity which supports people with spinal cord injury.

Slater and Gordon took part in The Push, in which teams – including one wheelchair user – race up and down Yr Wyddfa, formerly known as Mount Snowdon.

Mark Holland, who survived a mountain biking accident but is now paralysed, was taken up and down Wales’ tallest mountain by the team, which included ten people from Slater and Gordon and six from Deka Chambers.

The challenge raises vital funds for Back Up, a charity which supports children and adults to rebuild their lives after spinal cord injury.

Each year, Back Up helps hundreds of people and their families through both in-person and online sessions.

Slater and Gordon raised almost £11,000 through their participation in The Push, which earned them the accolade of ‘Top Fundraiser’ for the 2024 challenge.

The law firm is a key name in supporting survivors of spinal cord injury, with its team supporting individuals and their families for many years in accessing the care and rehabilitation they need after the trauma of injury, to enable them to maximise independence and look to the future.

Louise Hurley, a litigation executive at Slater and Gordon, volunteers for Back Up outside of her role in serious injury, and took on the team captain role for The Push.

“It was without doubt a challenge.

“The weather couldn’t have been any worse, and the equipment we were using to transport Mark broke, which made it even more physically difficult to get him back down, but we all worked together and had a great team spirit,” she says.

“We are delighted to be named Top Fundraiser for the challenge.

“The crucial support Back Up provides to both adults and children, helping them to thrive after spinal cord injury, is so important.

“It’s a real pleasure to be able to donate so much money to help them in their work.”

Abigail Lock, Back Up’s CEO, adds: “The Push is a fantastic fundraising challenge, one that really captures Back Up’s key value of fun. We are very grateful for the efforts of everyone who took part in or volunteered at The Push.

“The funds raised at this year’s event will ensure that we can support even more people affected by spinal cord injury in the future.”
