Primrose Neurological Centre celebrates CQC ‘Good’ rating after six-year reinspection delay

Primrose Neurological Centre, in Morecambe, has been rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This is a landmark moment following years of frustration over a pandemic-related reinspection delay.

Primrose Neurological Centre, National Care Group’s specialist neurological rehabilitation service, operated by National Neurological Services, supports people living with complex neurological conditions, mental health challenges and dementia.

It was rated Good across all five key areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led.

The team has waited a long time for the opportunity to demonstrate the quality support provided at Primrose Neurological Centre.

This new rating, following an assessment in May 2026, confirms the outstanding work delivered by National Care Group colleagues.

What inspectors found

CQC inspectors found the service to be clean, secure and well maintained.

They described a positive and open culture that supported continuous learning and improvement, in which risks were identified, assessed, and managed effectively, and audits and checks were used to drive ongoing improvement.

Colleagues told inspectors they felt confident in the registered manager and the wider management team.

Care and support were found to be person-centred, with people supported to work towards their own goals and aspirations. Inspectors noted that people were able to give feedback on their care and shape it around their needs and preferences, and that the team knew the people they supported well.

People told inspectors they felt at home at Primrose. One person shared simply: “It’s a nice place, I like it.”

The full inspection report is available on the CQC website.

A team to be proud of

Jacqueline, registered manager, said: “This rating reflects the dedication and hard work of every member of our team. We’ve waited a long time for the chance to show how much the service has developed, and to see that reflected across every single area is incredibly rewarding.

“I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved together for the people we support.”

Charlotte Lumley, regional operations director, north, National Care Group, added: “This is a fantastic result for Primrose and thoroughly deserved.

“The team has shown such commitment over the last few years, and this Good rating across every area is testament to the quality of support and leadership at the service.

“My congratulations go to the whole team.”

A well-earned milestone

The rating marks a significant moment for the team at Primrose Neurological Centre, many of whom have worked at the service throughout the period since the 2020 inspection.

It reflects sustained improvement and stands as a strong endorsement of the specialist neurological rehabilitation support Primrose provides to the people who call it home.
