Headway Shropshire to unveil renovated centre following £600k revamp

Headway Shropshire will reopen its Shrewsbury centre after a £600,000 refurbishment supported by National Lottery funding.
The charity will hold a grand reopening at its Headway Hub at Oxon Business Park on Thursday, October 8, inviting the local community to see the changes.
Norman Harris, co-founder of Headway Shropshire and a user of its services, said: “There was no place for people [with acquired brain injury].
“Headway was an excellent way of bringing people together. It is an essential part of their life. They’re able to look forward to something.
“Coming to this building was the epitome – the end of the journey as far as I was concerned, because it gave anything that you could possibly want. Everybody here is happy.”
Headway Shropshire received £475,122 from the National Lottery Community Fund towards the project.
The two-storey centre has been redesigned to provide a more accessible environment for people with acquired brain injuries and neurological conditions.
New facilities include a wheelchair-accessible kitchen, arts and music room, IT suite, relaxation area and fully accessible changing places wet room.
The centre will also provide space for cooking, art and life skills activities, alongside physical and social wellbeing support.
It is the first full renovation of Headway Shropshire’s headquarters since the centre opened in 2002.
Headway Shropshire chief executive Nia Rossiter said: “We’ve created a place our clients, families and community can be proud of; somewhere people can connect, feel supported, build friendships and access the opportunities they need to live well after brain injury.”
The reopening event will include tours of the centre, demonstrations of activities including art and cooking, refreshments and the chance to meet members of the Headway Shropshire team.
