Middlesbrough care service raises over £100 for breast cancer charity

A splash of pink and a generous spirit helped a care service in Middlesbrough raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now.

Located on Hemlington Village Road, Cygnet Newham House is a 20-bed neuropsychiatric care service for women with acquired brain injuries.

The Cygnet Health Care service recently raised over £100 for Breast Cancer Now through a day of fundraising fun.

The charity supports those affected by breast cancer by funding research to improve diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the disease.

Breast Cancer Now also provides vital support services whilst raising awareness and advocating for better care for those with breast cancer across the UK.

Hospital manager Joanna Yarker said: “Our event showed what can be achieved when a committed team works together towards a shared goal. I am proud of the professionalism, compassion and determination shown by every member of the team.”

The fundraiser was organised by Mshiana Ater, support worker and women’s health lead at Cygnet Newham House. Both staff and service users united to create their own tie-dye t-shirts, play a variety of games, and share their personal stories whilst educating one another.

“The individuals we support are all women, so we thought this charity would be good to raise awareness for,” added Joanna.

“Our service users enjoy fundraising and working collaboratively to increase awareness of issues that can affect them. The co-production between staff and service users made this extra special.”
