Exemplar Health Care officially opens latest care home

Exemplar Health Care, a provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with complex needs, has officially opened its new £3.4million state-of-the-art care home in Pontefract. 

Bennett Court, based on Ash Grove in South Elmsall, is Exemplar Health Care’s first home in Pontefract. 

On Tuesday, the Mayor of Wakefield, Councillor Tracey Austin, officially opened Exemplar Health Care’s newest specialist care home, Bennett Court, in South Elmsall, Pontefract.

The Mayor of Wakefield was invited to cut the ribbon and unveil a plaque, to mark the official opening of the home. She was joined by Bennett Court’s commissioning home director, Helen Lawson, senior Exemplar Health Care executives, team members and local commissioners.

Councillor Tracey Austin, the Mayor of Wakefield, said: “The team here at Bennett Court are doing an amazing job and it’s great to see so many locals working and supporting the care home ahead of the opening. I was delighted to be offered a tour of the home and have the opportunity to see first-hand that the residents were receiving such fantastic care.

“I love how the features of the home encourage independent living and I am amazed by how spacious the rooms are – with a lovely view I might add. This home is great for the area and great for the local people.”

Helen Lawson, commissioning home director at Bennett Court, said: “We are delighted to have received a warm welcome from the Lord Mayor, Tracey Austin, and to have officially opened the home.

“This home will provide person-centred nursing care for up to 30 people in the Pontefract area. We have a trained in-house team of health care assistants, nurses and therapists who will support people to maximise their independence and live their best lives here at Bennett Court.”

Specialist nursing care in Pontefract

Bennett Court care home supports adults living with complex mental health needs, dementia and neuro-disabilities including brain injuries.  

Bennett Court has the expertise and facilities to support some of the most complex and acute individuals, who would often be in a hospital setting if not placed with them, enabling them to stay in the community and reducing hospital and secure facility admission. 

The home has 30 large bedrooms, each with an en-suite, across three ten-bed units. All three units have the provision for bariatric care. 

This small group living provides a homely and supportive environment, which is more responsive to people’s needs. 

Being on the ground floor and with garden access rooms, Lily Unit is ideal for those living with neuro-disabilities.  

Daisy Unit has two dedicated bariatric beds and supports adults living with complex health needs and mixed diagnoses. 

And the home’s Poppy Unit supports adults living with complex health needs and mixed diagnoses, including neuro-disabilities, brain injuries, physical disabilities and those who have tracheostomies, ventilators and PEG feeds. 

Holistic care in a community-based home

Exemplar Health Care’s holistic approach to care ensures that people get the right care, at the right time and by the right team, the first time round.

The team at Bennett Court works with individuals, their loved ones and professionals to decide how they want to live, and design a care plan that’s individually tailored to their needs and goals.
