The Shadow Minister of State for Social Care is among an expert panel discussing ways to address the care workforce crisis at an event held next week.

Andrew Gwynne MP will be the keynote speaker at the Care Crisis, joining a series of other prominent names from across health and social care in delivering insight and taking part in debate at the event.

The Care Crisis, organised by Slater and Gordon, will be held in Manchester on Thursday, March 7, and is the latest in a series of national events to discuss the topic – the first being held in Newcastle and attracted senior care professionals from across the North East.

Now being held in the North West, the event is set to welcome scores of guests working in health and social care across the region and beyond, to discuss how the sector can help to find solutions to the growing workforce gap and in redefining the profile and potential of a role in care.

The speakers at the event – in addition to Mr Gwynne, whose shadow portfolio includes overseeing all aspects of social care – are:

  • Professor Martin Green, CEO of Care England
  • Vicki Gilman, Chair of BABICM
  • Maggie Sargent, co-director of CCMS
  • Renate Winkler, co-founder of Guardian Carers
  • Richard Crabtree, principal lawyer at Slater and Gordon

The Chair of the event will be Andrew Axon, personal injury specialist barrister at Parklane Plowden Chambers.

“As lawyers who work widely with clients who depend on the provision of care, this is a sector we care deeply about and the growing workforce gap – which threatens provision of care for so many in society – is increasingly concerning,” says Richard Crabtree, who has supported seriously injured clients for over 30 years.

“Through bringing together an expert panel with audience of people who are truly on the frontline of this crisis, we hope to create the opportunities and stimulate the debate which will help us find ways forward.

“We are delighted to welcome such a knowledgeable panel, including the Shadow Minister of State who will share his plans for the future of social care.

“The event in Newcastle was extremely successful, with key topics subject to scrutiny and debate and many positive connections formed between guests, and we are confident the second event in our Care Crisis series will follow a similar path.

“We are really pleased to be playing our role in ensuring this very important topic is on the agenda.”

  • Some places still remain for the event, held at Halle St Peters in Manchester, M4 6BF, on Thursday, March 7, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm. To register your attendance, contact events@slatergordon.co.uk
