A 21-year-old man has received a six-figure settlement to fund his rehabilitation following an incident where he was hit by a motorcycle and acquired a life-changing brain injury.
According to report, James Donovan, 21, who was 17 at the time of the accident was hit by a motorcycling at almost 70mph in a 40 zone.
Donovan acquired a life-changing brain injury from the crash, having to be put into a coma and being unable to return home for a year following the incident.
He will now require specialist rehabilitation and on going support for his brain injury, which the settlement will support, and it is unlikely he will be able to work.
Donovan’s legal representative, Laura Middleton-Guerard of Irwin Mitchell, said: “The last few years and coming to terms with the collision and the serious injuries James suffered have been difficult for him and his family.
“While he has made good progress in his recovery, James still faces many challenges which are expected to affect him for the rest of his life. Nothing can make up for what he’s been through. However, we’re pleased to have secured a liability agreement and funds ensuring James can access the rehab he needs to make the best recovery he can.
“We join James’ loved ones in urging people to take care on the roads. His case is a stark reminder of the life-changing consequences people can be left to face when road safety isn’t upheld.”
