Importance of suitable accommodation takes centre stage

The importance of securing appropriate accommodation for people after life-changing injury is being explored at an event to be held in the coming weeks.

Accommodation – So Much More Than a Roof Over Your Head will look at what ‘suitable accommodation’ means for clients and how enabling this can support them in achieving best outcomes.

The event, organised by the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management (BABICM), will hear from an array of leading names who will address an array of pertinent issues in enabling clients to achieve maximum independence and confidence in their home.

Among the areas addressed will be the legal aspects – including the impact of Swift vs Carpenter and funding – whether to rent or purchase, adaptations and equipment, facilities for carers, future planning as the client’s needs evolve, and purpose-designed technology for the home.

Speakers and topics include:

  • Accommodation in the Litigation Process – Gerard Horton, senior solicitor at Fletchers Solicitors
  • Translating client needs into practice – Georgina West – specialist housing occupational therapist at OT33, and Case Manager at North Star Case Management
  • Accommodation process from a deputy perspective – Sarah Charnley – professional deputy at Fletchers Solicitors
  • Assistive technology options within the home – Andy Fell – independent disability and assistive technology consultant at SMA
  • Accommodation from a project manager and expert witness perspective – James Nocker – consultant surveyor at William Martin Property Consultants Ltd

The one-day conference, sponsored by Fletchers Solicitors, will be held on March 16 at The Studio in Birmingham.
