Kavanagh Place secures HDA accreditation

A specialist care home has become the latest in Exemplar Health Care’s portfolio to achieve ‘Quality Assured’ status by the Huntington Disease Association (HDA) for its quality of care.

Kavanagh Place care home, in Kirkdale, Liverpool, has secured the HDA Quality Assured accreditation – a quality assurance programme that identifies the behaviours, cultures and specialist services required for a care home supporting those living with Huntington’s disease.

The accreditation was awarded after Kavanagh Place underwent a rigorous process of inspection and assessment, during which time an independent assessor spent time at the home and staff, families and service users were also interviewed.

Kavanagh Place is home to 40 adults living with complex care and health needs, and has become the latest in Exemplar Health Care’s portfolio to secure the HDA Quality Assured tick. It also supports adults living with other neurodisabilities including Parkinson’s disease, complex physical disabilities and mental health needs.

Kiri Houghton, home manager at Kavanagh Place, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Kavanagh Place is Quality Assured by the Huntington’s Disease Association.

“Our staff have many years’ experience of caring for individuals with Huntington’s disease, and at Kavanagh Place, we’ve been doing this for over ten years.

“Our team is committed to providing the highest quality of care for our service users who are living with the disease, and supporting their families.

“We’re extremely proud to have a regular and consistent staff team whose hard work and dedication have made it possible to obtain this fantastic recognition.

“The Quality Assured tick is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the outstanding team we have here at Kavanagh Place.”

The judging panel shared that Kavanagh Place demonstrated excellent care for people with Huntington’s disease.

Helen Santini, team leader – advisory service and specialist advisor at the Huntington’s Disease Association, said: “We are delighted that Kavanagh Place is the latest care home to receive Quality Assured accredited status from the Huntington’s Disease Association.

“The evidence appeared clear that Kavanagh Place solidly and consistently met all standards. It was impressive to see what was happening across all the areas of care that were considered.

“Residents at Kavanagh Place were supported by knowledgeable staff who were clearly going the extra mile to support people with Huntington’s disease and we congratulate them on their accreditation!”

The Quality Assured accreditation demonstrates the care home’s commitment to caring for people with Huntington’s disease and is a mark of reassurance to help the Huntington’s community when choosing a care facility.
