Rochdale’s Ashbrook Neuro Rehabilitation has begun a new chapter with a new registered manager focused on improving social connections for people with acquired brain injuries, and a refurbishment project also underway.
With a 28-year career in health and social care, Donna Bunce has a wealth of experience in transforming the standards of each service she has managed, extensive knowledge in effective leadership and training others, and has supported the progression of individuals in a diverse range of support environments.
Part of Donna’s plans for the residential service include integrating her background in supported living to enhance the social skills of individuals requiring neurological rehabilitation, creating a more homely environment, and enhancing opportunities for people to socialise with their friends and family.
Donna said: “This is an exciting new chapter for me, and I’m delighted to join the experienced team at Ashbrook and help to develop the service.
“A person’s friendship circle shrinks following a brain injury, and the impact of an acquired brain injury on a person’s wider family is a matter close to my heart.

“My intention is not only to make all the environments at Ashbrook as homely as possible, but also to introduce more opportunities for social interaction.
“I’m committed to creating a supportive and caring environment, one that I would want for my own family, and look forward to enhancing the centre’s excellent reputation and the high-quality support it already provides.”
From a young age, Donna aspired to become a registered nurse.
She studied relevant NVQs at college during the day and worked as a support worker in an elderly residential home in the evenings.
Over the years, she progressed to various roles at different care providers within a range of support environments.
Her career to date has allowed her to support many individuals with support needs, whose resilience motivates her to make a meaningful impact on their lives.
Ashbrook Neuro Rehabilitation is part of National Neurological Services (NNS), and operated by leading social care provider National Care Group.
In addition to appointing a new manager, a significant refurbishment project is currently underway at Ashbrook and other NNS sites.
Investment is part of National Care Group’s ongoing commitment to continuously provide the highest quality support for people and colleagues to achieve their goals in capable and modern environments.
Mike Ranson, Chief Commercial Officer at National Care Group, said: “Investing in and continuously improving our services is critical to ensuring the people we support live happy and healthy lives, and our colleagues are at the heart of this.
“Donna has already proven herself to be a great leader with almost three decades of experience and a track record of transforming the services she manages.
“We’re excited to follow her journey as she settles into her new position.”
