Tetraplegic veteran completes 79-mile challenge for spinal injury charity

A tetraplegic veteran has completed a 79-mile challenge across the Highlands, raising more than £25,000 for spinal injury charity Regain.

Danny Mavor, who served in the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards in Iraq, was paralysed following a motorcycle accident six years ago.

The 41-year-old from Glasgow completed the three-day journey from Fort William to Inverness via the Great Glen Way using an off-road wheelchair operated with his chin.

Mavor travelled coast to coast, finishing at Clachnaharry Locks, where the Caledonian Canal meets the sea.

The second day brought difficulties when a fallen tree and rock slide forced him to take detours.

He was joined by friends, family and comrades from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, who supported him during the challenge.

The fundraising effort has raised more than £25,000 for Regain, which supports people with life-changing spinal injuries.

Mavor said: “I want to raise funds to support other tetraplegics, people who are facing the same life-changing spinal injuries as me. I also want to show that life doesn’t end after a spinal injury.

“It changes, yes, but it can still be full, meaningful, and even extraordinary.”
