The Wellington Hospital celebrates Neurological and Complex Care Awards win

HCA UK’s The Wellington Hospital celebrated its Neurological Rehabilitation Centre’s success at the Neurological and Complex Care Awards last week, recognising the highly complex care their teams deliver every day.

Their programme for patients with Prolonged Disorders of Consciousness (PDOC) was honoured with the ‘Innovation in Neuro Rehab’ award for Paolo Tomaselli’s work integrating Neurologic Music Therapy, in partnership with Chroma.

Paolo is Neurologic Music Therapist at The Wellington Hospital’s Neurological Rehabilitation Centre.

He said:  “The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing the power of music to reconnect people with parts of themselves they thought were lost – whether that’s helping someone affected by a stroke or supporting recovery after a brain injury.

“Those moments remind me why I do what I do”

“I’m also incredibly fortunate to work within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

“Collaborating daily with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, psychologists, and nurses means we can combine our expertise to give every patient the most holistic and meaningful care possible.”

In this video, Paolo explains how he uses music and movement to support patients recovering from neurological injury or disease, helping to improve speech, movement and cognition.
