The vast majority of brain injury case managers believe that the current political turmoil will delay the roll out of the Government’s ABI Strategy, according to early results from a new survey.
Nockolds Solicitors is partnering with NR Times in running the survey, which was launched last month and runs until September 18.
While the survey is ongoing, early results are now being released.
And further insight is sought from case managers working with brain injury survivors and their families, to help establish the true picture for ABI support nationally and to show what more must be done.
The Government granted permission for the ABI Strategy late last year, following calls for action from MP Chris Bryant and a host of charities.
Efforts have since been ongoing – led by Mr Bryant and Gillian Keegan, Minister of State for Care and Mental Health – to gain feedback and insight from those with personal or professional experience of brain injury support nationally, including through a Call for Evidence.
The Strategy is expected to be published in early 2023 – but early results of the survey reveal fears that this may not be the case.
“The government has said that its eagerly-awaited ABI strategy will be published in early 2023, but the initial response to our survey suggests brain injury case managers fear the roll out will be delayed,” said Jennie Jones, head of the medical negligence and personal injury team at Nockolds Solicitors.
“We have received a terrific response to our survey. With ABI care at such a crossroads, we are looking at a wide range of issues including the government’s ABI strategy, rehabilitation, funding, COVID-19, recruitment and the legal process.
“We would urge brain injury case managers who haven’t yet taken in our survey to do so before September 18.”
Deborah Johnson, editor of NR Times, added: “From the excellent response we have had so far to our survey, case managers are raising concerns that the anticipated publication date of the ABI Strategy may slip.
“We also have a wide range of other revealing insight, all of which will help to paint the truest possible picture of current brain injury provision and to help show what more must be done.
“We would encourage any case managers who have not yet given their feedback to complete the survey by September 18, to share their insight into this hugely important issue.”
