The UK neuro-rehab community is being encouraged to back a landmark bill that could dramatically improve services for brain injury survivors.
Chris Bryant MP is sponsoring the Acquired Brain Injury Bill which will have its second reading in the Chamber on Friday, 3 December.
The bill is calling for a comprehensive strategy to be implemented in order to meet the needs of adults and children with an acquired brain injury.
This strategy, to be published no later than April 2023, aims to improve the provision of services by local authorities, NHS, Department for Education, Ministry of Defence, Prison Service, Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Ahead of the second reading, rehab professionals and patient-families are being urged to encourage their local MP to also back the bill.
Chloe Hayward, executive director of UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum (UKABIF), said: “We are delighted to work with Chris Bryant MP on this vital Private Members’ Bill. It covers a wide range of policy areas and will be help improve how services are delivered to people of all ages with an acquired brain injury. We now need people to encourage their MPs to support the Bill.
“The Bill has cross-party backing and we are encouraging all MPs, stakeholders and partner organisations to add their support as we move towards the second Bill reading at the start of December.”
