Reconnections hosts case managers

Groundbreaking brain injury rehabilitation centre Reconnections has hosted its inaugural ‘experience day’ for case managers.

The day enabled case managers working across the UK with ABI survivors to experience first-hand how Reconnections delivers its neuro-rehab and further develops its pioneering rehabilitation programmes.

Case managers were also introduced to clinical staff at Reconnections who explained how the centre integrates clinical rehabilitation into outdoor activities to achieve positive outcomes for participants.

They also took part in a range of outdoor activities, led by the centre’s rehabilitation coaches, in Reconnections’ stunning location in the Lake District.

Claire Appleton, head of service at Reconnections, said of the case managers’ experience day: “I’d like to thank everyone who attended and made this event so memorable.

“Days like this are part of our commitment to work with case managers, solicitors, insurers and the wider brain injury community to deliver life-changing outcomes for our participants.

“By listening to feedback and gaining insight we can continue to expand the horizons of what’s possible.”

Reconnections, which opened in June 2021, has an interdisciplinary team which includes neuro occupational therapists, neuro physiotherapists, neuro speech and language therapists, neuro psychologists, positive behaviour support practitioners and rehabilitation coaches.

The team works collaboratively to deliver individual plans for participants, combining cognitive and physical rehabilitation with vocational and outdoor activities delivering with a unique non-clinical environment.

Compelling evidence supports Reconnections’ groundbreaking approach to ABI rehabilitation with the centre’s recent outcomes review indicating that the majority of participants have progressed on to independent living since leaving the service.

Other outcomes include:

  • 100 per cent improved their ability to carry out everyday activities.
  • 100 per cent needed less support when they were discharged.
  • 100 per cent reported an improved hope for the future and an improved sense of purpose and direction in their life.
  • 90 per cent achieved their goals.
  • 80 per cent felt more empowered through greater participation and control over decisions that affect their lives.

Reconnections also reported a strong start to 2023, with referrals running at their highest ever level.
