Residents of an Essex care home have been able to enjoy the beach in spite of ongoing restrictions after it was brought to them.
While a trip to the local beach was not possible, Mid-Meadows created an island paradise of their very own in the garden of their Frinton-on-Sea site.
Staff at the home created a day to remember for residents, with the maintenance team building a tiki-style seaside bar with a makeshift beach complete with paddling pool and sand, with a range of favourite drinks on offer.
It was decorated with luau-themed decorations and given the title of Hog Island, with resident feedback helping to attest the success of the initiative.
“It’s been great fun! I feel really fully involved. I want more of these theme weeks,” said Molly, aged 26.
“Great idea – everyone got involved, just like being in the Caribbean,” said 44-year-old Karen.
Mid-Meadows is owned by Black Swan Care Group and caters for adults with physical and learning disabilities.
“It’s so important to us at Black Swan Care Group to provide person-centred care which is tailored and personalised to each of our residents needs,” says Sam Bailey, head of marketing and social media at the group.
“Throughout lockdown staff adapted their roles and schedules to ensure our residents didn’t miss out on the activities the summer would usually bring.
“Staff at Mid-Meadows went above and beyond to ensure our residents had an amazing tropical experience whilst following all guidance and ensuring our residents safety, and we applaud their hard work. They really did go above and beyond to make this experience truly special.”
