More than half a million global stroke deaths may be tied to climate change

A changing climate may be linked to growing death and disability from stroke in regions around the world, according to a study. Researchers found over three decades that non-optimal temperatures, those above or below temperatures associated with the lowest death rates, were increasingly linked to death and disability due to stroke.

Neuroscientists have identified a genetic mutation that fends off Alzheimer’s disease in people at high risk and could lead to a new way to protect people from the disease.

Geraniol attenuates oxidative stress and cognitive impairment

In a new study, D-galactose (D-gal) administration was proven to induce cognitive impairment and aging in rodents’ models. Geraniol (GNL), which belongs to the acyclic isoprenoid monoterpenes, reduces inflammation by changing important signaling pathways and cytokines, and is plausible to be used as a medicine for treating inflammatory disorders.

Kevin Stewart, MSP for Aberdeen Central, raised research by the University of Aberdeen that identified a new tool to detect signs of motor neuron disease (MND) before symptoms begin.

Roche granted FDA Breakthrough Device Designation for Alzheimer’s blood test

The Elecsys® pTau217 plasma biomarker test is being developed as part of an ongoing partnership between Roche and Eli Lilly and Company. Once approved, the test will aid healthcare providers in identifying amyloid pathology, a key feature of Alzheimer’s disease.

Magnetic Insight receives $3 million in new grant funding

Magnetic Insight was awarded a multi-million-dollar NIH Phase II Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant to develop the engineering underpinning its clinical MPI imaging platform development, which is focused on accelerating imaging applications for CAR-T cell therapies, stroke, gastrointestinal (GI) bleeds, and pulmonary embolisms.
