Voyage Care acquires site for brain injury service

Voyage Care has acquired a site in Thornaby to develop a new specialist brain injury rehabilitation service.

The 1.1-acre site, previously operating as a care home, will be converted into a facility providing personalised rehabilitation for people with acquired brain injuries—injuries that occur after birth, often caused by trauma, stroke or infection.

The property, Teesdale Lodge, was bought freehold from liquidators acting for Clevedon Care Ltd. The deal involved clearing 43 leasehold interests to ensure the site was vacant at the time of completion.

Voyage Care was advised by law firm Blacks Solicitors.

The firm’s real estate team, led by Andrew Pedley and Lucy Storey, supported the process, including due diligence and a conditional contract to remove the leaseholds.

Litigation support was also required after some tenants did not take part in the lease surrender process, prompting consideration of forfeiture—a legal procedure that ends a lease due to a tenant’s breach of its terms. Blacks advised Voyage Care on the associated risks of this route.

Andrew Pedley is a partner in the real estate team at Blacks.

He said: “We are delighted to have supported longstanding client, Voyage Care, in successfully completing this acquisition and supporting its expansion.

“It has been a pleasure to work with James McDonnell, Sunena Stoneham and the team at Voyage Care and we wish them every success,” said

James McDonnell, commercial director at Voyage Care, added: “It was great to work closely alongside the Blacks team and David Beecham to secure this exciting new addition to Voyage Care’s specialist brain injury rehabilitation portfolio.”
