The Child Brain Injury Trust has announced the launch of its newly restructured Legal Support Service which provides free, independent legal advice to families and young people affected by childhood-acquired brain injury (ABI).
When a child acquires a brain injury, the effects can be life-altering. Families are often left facing difficult legal decisions about education, care, medical treatment, and financial security—often with little guidance.
The Child Brain Injury Trust’s Legal Support Service will work to bridge this gap by offering expert legal advice from specialist firms partnered with the Child Brain Injury Trust, independent guidance tailored to each family’s needs, and support right across the UK.
“Every family affected by childhood acquired brain injury deserves to feel informed, supported, and empowered,” said Emma Harpur, legal support partnership manager at the Child Brain Injury Trust.
“Our new Legal Support Service brings together expert legal partners and our dedicated ABI Coordinators to provide fully integrated support – always in the family’s best interests.”
Brian Coghlan, director at HCC Solicitors, CBIT’s new legal partner in Manchester, said: “We are extremely proud to be selected as one of CBIT’s trusted legal partners, helping families whose children have been seriously injured.
“As specialists in child injury cases, our ‘Family First’ approach aligns perfectly with CBIT’s invaluable work. As a result, this partnership is a natural fit, and we are honoured to be part of it.”
Legal needs can arise quickly and unexpectedly after a child sustains a brain injury and families may need legal guidance on education rights, medical negligence claims, social care and housing support, and welfare benefits and financial entitlements.
The Child Brain Injury Trust has partnered with leading law firms across the UK, all with proven expertise in childhood ABI and a commitment to family-focused support to ensure families receive local legal support tailored to their unique situation.
The Child Brain Injury Trust’s ABI Coordinators will work with legal partners to provide emotional and practical support.
ABI Coordinators will inform families of the Child Brain Injury Trust Legal Support Service, refer families to the appropriate legal partner in their region, work alongside legal professionals to ensure all advice is well-informed and family-centred, and co-ordinate a joined-up approach, combining emotional, practical, and legal support.
