Case managers can learn more about spinal cord injury and how to improve quality of life for clients in an upcoming event.
The ‘Bladder, Bowel and Skin Management in Spinal Cord Injury: Prevention is Better Than Cure’ event will address the complications that can arise after SCI.
The BABICM event, on May 4, will consider medical and therapeutic interventions and will present guidance for practitioners who work with highly complex cases.
An array of speakers have been confirmed for the event, to be held in Birmingham:
* Steve Brown, former captain of the Great Britain wheelchair rugby squad and Countryfile presenter
* Dr Salman Lari – consultant in SCI and rehabilitation medicine, Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust
* Jane Stanbridge – neurogenic specialist curse (bladder specialist)
* Professor Anton Emmanuel – consultant neurogastroenterologist, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
* Hester Dunne – tissue viability nurse for the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Buckinghamshire Healthcare
The event is designed to help case managers and other BABICM members gain a greater understanding of the management of bladder, bowel and skin issues following spinal injury, and increase understanding of relevant therapeutic and medical interventions.
It is also tailored to deliver more information around management options and optimising possible medical interventions, creating better knowledge of how to identify treatment options at the appropriate time.
It will also help case managers better understand the role of the MDT in preventing complications.
