Exemplar Health Care residents enjoy Queen’s Jubilee celebrations

Residents and colleagues from across Exemplar Health Care enjoyed celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee with entertainment, competitions and street parties.
In this blog, Sophia Feurtado, service user engagement manager at Exemplar Health Care, shares some of the fun activities they got up to.
We love a party at Exemplar Health Care – after all, our first value is FUN!
Our Service User Council, which is made up of Service User Ambassadors from across our 36 care homes, started planning for the jubilee months ago – and they certainly did a great job.
As well as the many entertainers, BBQs and parties taking place, the council organised two competitions for their fellow residents to get involved in.
The first challenge was to design a float for their home’s garden or street party.
Arts and crafts is often on the activity programme in our care homes, many of which support adults living with complex neuro-disabilities. People really benefit from taking part in something that stimulates ideas and gives them focus.
So, it’s no surprise that we saw some brilliant floats enter the competition.
Our Fairburn Mews care home in Castlefordmade a Queen’s carriage that can be attached to a wheelchair, along with its very own Queen and guard. Everyone had a great time parading around the home in it!

Havenmere care home in Immingham made a London-themed display in the home, that served as a backdrop for the day’s celebrations.

Longley Park View care home in Sheffield welcomed their very own paper mache Queen for the day, who took centre stage for their weekend of entertainment.

The second challenge was to design a pudding fit for the queen.
Baking is a popular competition at Exemplar Health Care. Our residents love getting creative in the kitchen!
Baking brings lots of benefits for the people we support. It engages the senses, keeps the brain active and provides social interaction.
Tyne Grange care home in Newcastle upon Tyne brought the ‘London look’ to their pudding with icing guards, lampposts and phone boxes.

The residents at Neville Court care home in Barnsley took a different approach and made a firm favourite of bread and butter pudding, with a special jubilee twist.

Maypole Grove care home in Birmingham made sure that everyone could get involved, with a cupcake masterpiece in the shape of the Union Jack.

Judging will take place by Exemplar Health Care colleagues this week. Follow the company on Facebook to find out the winner!
