Trio to walk 40 miles for MND charity

Three colleagues will walk 40 miles from Cumbernauld to Edinburgh to raise money for a workmate diagnosed with motor neurone disease.
Riello UPS employees are making the trek to support 58-year-old project manager Peter Walthall from Cheadle, who was diagnosed in December 2024.
Adam Greer, Steven O’Brien and Jack Will will follow Route 754 along the Union Canal and Forth and Clyde Canal, passing the Falkirk Wheel and stopping overnight in Linlithgow.
Leo Craig, managing director of Riello UPS Ltd, said: “Peter is a hugely popular and well-respected part of our team, and his MND diagnosis came as a huge shock to us all.
“But what doesn’t surprise us is the determination that he and his family have shown in facing the disease head-on – it’s a mark of the man that we have come to know and love over the years.
“The MND Association have offered Peter and his wife Tracey invaluable advice and assistance over recent months.
“The work they do is vital for so many families across the country impacted by MND, and it’s why we’re proud to support them as our charity of the year for 2025.
“And while our team certainly has a challenge on their hands walking from Cumbernauld to Murrayfield and also Wrexham to Port Vale, we’re more than sure they will be up to the task and hope they’ll raise lots of money along the way.”
The walk will begin at the company’s Scottish office on Napier Way and end at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Money raised will go to the MND Association.

Peter has worked at Riello UPS for more than 11 years and remains in his project manager role with company support following his diagnosis.
The Cumbernauld team’s walk will run in parallel with a similar fundraiser organised by colleagues at the firm’s North Wales headquarters, who will walk from Wrexham to Vale Park in Burslem, Staffordshire – the home ground of Peter’s club Port Vale.
Staff at the company’s Letchworth and Fareham branches will also join the effort by walking equivalent distances on treadmills.
The company has named the MND Association as its charity of the year for 2025 in recognition of the support given to Mr Walthall and his family.
