Search to replace Brain Charity CEO

A charity which supports people across the UK who live with neurological conditions is searching for a new chief executive.

The Brain Charity provides practical help, emotional support and social opportunities from its headquarters in Liverpool, and this year marks its 30th anniversary.

Now, after nine years at the helm, chief executive Nanette Mellor has announced she is to leave the organisation, having overseen a period of significant growth.

When she joined The Brain Charity, its income was around £385,000 and the organisation had less than ten staff. This financial year, it is set to hit £1.8million turnover, with more than 50 members of staff working across multiple sites in Merseyside supported by 80 volunteers.

“The Brain Charity is a strong, vibrant and fascinating place to work. The team are incredible and I know that their next CEO will be proud to call themselves their leader,” said Nanette, who will take up the role as CEO of Drake Music in May.

“The past nine years have been without doubt, the most fulfilling period of my career so far and I will always be grateful for the professional development and personal growth opportunities the organisation has given me.

“The Brain Charity has the potential reach for the stars and when it does, I will be quietly watching on from the side lines with the same sense of pride and awe that I have always had watching the team perform their magic.

“I am extremely proud to have played my part in this period of its history and I will miss the job an enormous amount.”

The charity’s board of trustees is now seeking what they describe as a “dynamic, creative and genuinely kind leader with a strong background in social care, health or a related field” to drive the organisation forward and take it to the next level.

The leadership role will be responsible for developing the work of The Brain Charity, fulfilling the purpose of the organisation in line with its constitution and securing its successful and sustainable future.

Bill Chambers, chair of trustees at The Brain Charity, said: “We are a diverse, exciting, and innovative charity which has experienced significant growth in recent times.

“Our organisation has national reach and is proud to offer essential support to some of our society’s most vulnerable individuals.”
