Following an unannounced inspection, Care Inspectorate has rated Murdostoun Neurological Care Centre in North Lanarkshire — part of Active Care Group — with ‘Good’ and ‘Very good’ ratings, reflecting a significant improvement from the previous inspection.
The centre attributes the improvement to the teams’ continuous dedication to quality of care for patients with a brain injury or other neurological condition.
The unannounced inspection took place on 17-19 June 2024 to evaluate the centre on several key metrics and noted the positive changes that have been successfully implemented.
Specifically, Murdostoun achieved ratings of “Good” (4) in “How well do we support people’s wellbeing?” and “How good is our setting?”, and “Very good” (5) in “How good is our leadership?” and “How good is our staff team?”
The positive impact of regular health discussions, activities and community engagement on residents’ health and wellbeing was recognised, and the inspection described Murdostoun’s physical environment as clean, comfortable and homely, while care plans were noted for their person-centred approach.
Hospital Director, Michael Sneddon, said: “This is a tremendous achievement.
“The hard work and dedication to improve and maintain high standards by our team is nothing short of remarkable.
“I am very proud of everyone at Murdostoun and can only see our services going from strength to strength.”
Jodie Thomson, Unit Manager at Murdostoun, added: “We are ready to continue to improve the service further and are all excited to see what the future holds!”
Earlier this month, the Care Quality Commission (CQC), announced that Bethany Lodge and Bethany House in Dymchurch — also part of Active Care Group — had both been awarded with a ‘Good’ rating across all assessment frameworks of being safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.
Bethany House was upgraded to ‘Good’ since their last inspection and was commended for strong commitment to delivering high-quality care and staff’s genuine compassion, while promptly and effectively adapting to the needs and preferences of residents and having a meticulous approach to safety protocols.
Bethany Lodge retained their ‘Good’ rating by ensuring safety with vigilant checks, delivering positive health outcomes for residents with compassionate and comprehensive care plans while ensuring that residents feel valued and respected, and fostering a culture of openness and continuous improvement.
