The IRCM, new body established to focus on standards for case managers, is continuing to progress in its development with the creation of its new brand identity.
The Institute of Registered Case Managers (IRCM) has unveiled its new logo and website as it continues to push towards accreditation by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) and the creation of a voluntary register of case managers who demonstrate competence to practice.
The body – created jointly by the British Association of Brain Injury and Complex Case Management (BABICM), the Case Management Society of the UK (CMSUK) and the Vocational Rehabilitation Association (VRA) – is being established to bring new accountability and endorsement to case management, for the protection of clients and assurance of their families, authorities and commissioners.
Ultimately, the IRCM will develop a register of registered case managers, which will give new levels of quality and confidence in the profession.
Case managers from across the country are playing a central role in the development of IRCM, with a number of sub groups already being created to help shape different responsibilities of the organisation, as well as consulting on the proposed standards of the IRCM.
Angela Kerr, chair of IRCM, told NR Times she is hopeful PSA accreditation will come this year, but a lot of work still needs to be done to achieve that.
“There are a lot of different layers we have to look at, and while a huge amount of work has already been done, there are a lot of gaps we still need to fill in. It is an enormous task, but this is a very exciting year and I am very hopeful this will be the year when all the components come together,” she said.
“The main thing we want to achieve is PSA accreditation, but beyond that we’re looking at the registration process for existing practicing case managers and new ones thereafter. We’re already getting all our ducks in a row with the creation of the sub groups, which is moving things along well.
“We are very hopeful this will be achieved this year, and we are on track with the standards consultation all feedback has been taken on board and the standards will be finalized spring this year, but we need to get this right and will take the time it needs to achieve that.”
Angela said that significant numbers of case managers are already involved in the development of IRCM, through involvement in sub groups and attendance at online events, but urged anyone else who would like to get on board to make contact.
“We absolutely want as many people to get involved as possible, the response so far has been brilliant but we’d love to hear from more,” she said.
“A lot of case managers get in touch with questions, others offer their support or ask how they can be part of our groups, and I’d encourage anyone to get in touch.
“This is the case managers’ organisation so it’s important it’s what they want it to be, we want to hear everyone’s views. That is so important in us getting it right.”
