Groundbreaking neuro-rehabilitation centre Reconnections has received a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The rating for the pioneering ABI centre is as a result of its first inspection by CQC, after Reconnections opened in 2021.
Since then, it has developed strongly, delivering life-changing outcomes for brain injury survivors and continuing to build its level of referrals from across the country.
The CQC report praises Reconnections for being “consistently managed and well-led”.
The report says the centre promotes “high-quality, person-centred care” and is “open, inclusive and empowering”, praising Reconnections for its “imaginative” values.
Staff are “passionate about the service and the opportunities for people to maximise their independence”, it says, adding that people are “supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives” in order to “gain independence”.
Other highlights include Reconnections being recognised for its “knowledgeable and skilled staff team”.

The centre’s caring approach is also highlighted, with the CQC report noting that staff are “committed to improving people’s independence and supporting them to engage with the full range of activities on offer at the service”.
It adds that staff “celebrate people’s progress with them” providing them with “a sense of pride”.
CQC is the independent regulator of health and social care in England which monitors, inspects and regulates health and social care services to make sure people receive safe, effective, compassionate and high quality care.
Commenting on Reconnections’ CQC rating, head of service Claire Appleton said: “To receive a Good rating in our first CQC inspection is a really positive moment for the whole team.
“As a residential neuro-rehabilitation service for people with ABI, CQC accreditation is an important milestone.
“It is a great acknowledgement of all the hard work our team has put in. The comments in the report are a source of real pride for us all.”
The CQC findings add further endorsement to the quality of Reconnections’ work and the outcomes it is committed to supporting people to achieve.
Its recent outcomes review showed that the majority of participants have progressed on to independent living since leaving the service.
Other outcomes include:
- 100 per cent improved their ability to carry out everyday activities.
- 100 per cent needed less support when they were discharged.
- 100 per cent reported an improved hope for the future and an improved sense of purpose and direction in their life.
