SameYou names Alex Murphy as ambassador

Brain injury recovery charity SameYou has appointed its first celebrity ambassador in stroke survivor and Dancing on Ice winner Alex Murphy.

The ice skating star was only 24 when she had a stroke while working on a cruise ship that left her unable to walk, talk or pursue her passion as a professional skater.

Happily, through determination and support, Alex has gone on to rebuild her life, achieving success on the hugely popular ITV competition in 2020 as the professional partner to Joe Swash.

She now has become an ambassador for SameYou, the brain injury charity founded by globally-famous actor Emilia Clarke, who survived two brain haemorrhages and now campaigns for fellow survivors to gain greater access to the neuro-rehabilitation they desperately need.

SameYou has become known for its commitment to making change, with its N-ROL telerehabilitation initiative during COVID-19 lockdown enabling survivors to access high-quality neurorehabilitation despite the in-person restrictions. N-ROL continues to be rolled out, adopting a hybrid model to enable those who need support to access it in whichever way possible.

Alex hosted SameYou’s third birthday celebration webinar in March and spoke about the emotional  impact of her stroke, as well as the help that survivor-focused charities like SameYou can bring to those whose lives are affected by life-changing illness or injury.

Jenny Clarke, co-founder & CEO at SameYou, said “We are so happy to have Alex join SameYou as our first celebrity ambassador.

“Alex has lived experience that our supporters will identify with, and help us champion the cause and spread awareness for the need for change in rehabilitation care after a brain injury or stroke.”

Alex Murphy added: “I am so honoured to be named SameYou’s first ambassador.

“Having had a stroke myself, I know the importance of having inspirational people like Emilia to look up to as it truly aided in my recovery.

“I hope to not only spread awareness of the amazing things Same You is doing for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) survivors but hopefully inspire other survivors to never give up.”
