Meet Eva, Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist at the Neurological Rehabilitation Centre at HCA Healthcare UK’s The Wellington Hospital.
Here, we share more about Eva’s role and how she works with patients with a wide range of neurological conditions, including stroke and brain injury – one of our two main cohorts of patients at the centre.
“I’ve worked at Neurological Rehabilitation Centre for almost 15 years and over this time, I have learnt the importance of listening to patients and their families, truly understanding perspectives and experiences recognising who they are beyond their diagnosis.”
“At the outset of each admission, we conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify the patient’s impairments and current level of function.
“This forms the foundation for establishing the overarching goal of the rehabilitation stay.
“In collaboration with the patient and their family, we also set specific, measurable short-term goals, which are reviewed regularly to ensure progress and relevance.
“This initial assessment and goal-setting phase is critical, as it allows us to design rehabilitation programmes that are truly person-centred and responsive to each individual’s unique needs and circumstances, one of the key strengths of our service.
“Each day brings unique experiences, which is one of the most rewarding aspects of working with people. Every patient receives a weekly timetable and their sessions are carried out jointly with colleagues from other therapy disciplines for a tailored and holistic approach to their care.
“I firmly believe in the power of small, meaningful changes to significantly improve a person’s quality of life.
“My role gives me a deep sense of satisfaction and I firmly believe in the power of small, meaningful changes to significantly improve a person’s quality of life.
“From helping someone regain the ability to dress or feed themselves, to enabling them to sit out of bed and take a short walk, we guide our patients to become the best possible version of themselves, even in the face of adversity, and helping them see that a rich and fulfilling life is still possible.
“Knowing I’ve made a meaningful difference in someone’s life is truly humbling.”
