‘There is a really strong focus on the individual’

Nicki Greenhalgh, HR manager at AMS Case Management, discusses the firm and its ethos – and why every individual matters, whether they’re a client or team member

How long have you worked for AMS Case Management and briefly summarise your background and areas of expertise

I started at AMS Case Management (AMS CM) in May 2017, starting out as administrator and progressing to office manager. I completed a HR course and became HR manager. I have worked in administration and customer services for over 25 years in various different settings.

What attracted you to your current role and why?

Whilst initially I was unsure what case management actually was! As soon as I learnt more about it, I knew I would like to be a part of this. It gives a great sense of satisfaction to know I’m part of a team helping others and seeing our clients thrive is very rewarding. You really don’t get that in many jobs.

What attracted you to AMS CM specifically?

I had worked with the Darren for a number of years in a previous company and when he said that Marie had started the business, I did not really understand what case management was. After some discussion and Googling it was something that really interested me as it was a really interesting business that helped the most vulnerable of people.

How has the pandemic impacted your ways of working?

At AMS CM we have always had a flexible way of working, our teamwork from home as they need, and we are able to go online meetings should staff or clients not be able to meet in person. The pandemic obviously made this more of a regular occurrence. I think it’s great to be able to be this flexible, it’s a big selling point for anyone looking for a role in the case management field. Flexibility and autonomy are a key factor in why our team enjoy working for AMS CM so much.

What makes AMS a stand-out name in the marketplace?

I believe it is our reputation in managing clients with complex needs. Helping our clients to thrive post-injury and also our proactive approach. We are a small family-run business and that sense of being part of a strong, dedicated team with lots of support from your team members in also a big selling point for AMS CM.

Can you share an example of how your work contributes to the wider company and the service the clients receive?

As HR manager, I’m behind the scenes I don’t manage clients directly, however the work I do does contribute to the smooth running of the office and ensures our team of case managers, assistant case managers and office staff are all able to do what they do best and get on with their jobs efficiently. I manage recruitment and training (amongst other areas) and I ensure our staff are getting good quality training to help develop the service the offer.

Would you recommend a career at AMS CM and why?

AMS CM is a warm, family-run business with a really strong focus on the individual – both as a team member and also the individual clients they work with.

There is lots of support for further development and training and this is actively encouraged by the more senior managers.

I enjoy my work and appreciate the feeling that I am helping to contribute to the rehabilitation of vulnerable people at a challenging time in a client’s life.
