The successful candidate will primarily work with children and young people, supporting a range of neurodevelopmental, neurological, and emotional difficulties. A person-centred and family-focused approach is essential, as is the ability to support clients from initial assessment through to intervention, including CBT and/or neurorehabilitation. The ideal candidate will be skilled in holistic formulation that considers the interplay of cognition, behaviour, and emotion, within the wider family, educational, and social system. Familiarity with specialist psychological models (e.g., ACT, CFT, EMDR, DBT, or MBCT) is desirable, though not essential. Experience with expert witness work is also welcome but not required. Our Physiotherapy team in Brainkind is a dynamic and exciting team that works across 13 different inpatient settings around the UK. The Chantry is a specialist neurological centre in Ipswich and became part of Brainkind in October 2023. The Chantry provides rehabilitation for people recently diagnosed with stroke or head injuries and also offers support for people diagnosed with long term neurological conditions such as Huntington’s disease, Parkinsons, and multiple sclerosis. As the Senior Specialist Physiotherapist, you will have the opportunity to treat and manage a variety of presentations in the rehabilitation unit as well as in the complex care unit.
MAIN PURPOSE:
To provide a physiotherapy service at senior level by assessing, implementing (by self or junior staff) and evaluating programmes of person-centred care as part of the multi-disciplinary team. To ensure continuity and consistency regarding service users’ physical management. To demonstrate a senior level of clinical, technical and research skills through breadth and depth of knowledge.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for assessment of service user needs in relation particularly to optimising independence and physical function
- To undertake comprehensive assessment of service users, using investigative and analytical skills to formulate individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans
- To promote choice in all aspects of clinical practice reviewing and making suggestions to enhance the service user experience and enabling concerns and complaints to be raised freely by service user and their representatives
- To liaise and communicate with other health and social care professionals and volunteers in the planning and delivery of occupational therapy
- To ensure appropriate prescription, provision and maintenance of equipment within available resources
- To ensure that up to date written and electronic records are maintained in accordance with Professional and Brankind standards, and that sensitive information is held securely
- To demonstrate clinical leadership and promote clinical supervision.
- To share knowledge and expertise with other staff through formal and informal teaching
- To lead on the localised training plan for Brainkind staff to provide physiotherapy interventions as part of overall care

The Service:
Kerwin Court delivers specialist neuro rehabilitation to adults with an acquired brain injury in a residential setting just outside of Broadbridge Heath. You will be working with a team of rehabilitation support workers alongside a multi-disciplinary team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists and speech and language therapists.
The Role:
Brainkind is looking for a Senior Specialist SaLT who wants to develop their experience by working in our highly regarded service at Kerwin Court; providing strategic, professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Work as autonomous speech and language therapist within your multidisciplinary team
- Assess how a person’s communication impacts on their day to day life and provide intervention as appropriate.
- Work with the person and their social network to problem solve and overcome barriers.
- Assess communication and provide a management plan and rehabilitation (as appropriate) seeking specialist assessments as required

We're looking for a Part-time Physiotherapist to join our team to ensure that the delivery of Physiotherapy services to all residents who have diverse and complex needs. Working alongside a multidisciplinary Neurocare team upholding the values of Inspire Neurocare. You will be working 27 hours per week, shift patterns to be agreed based on the needs of the home.
No two days are ever the same. Our services are highly specialised, but highly varied, supporting people with a range of neurological conditions and symptoms, including brain injury, spinal injuries, PDOC, progressive conditions and stroke. Whether providing short-term specialist rehabilitation to increase people’s independence, long-term complex care, or end-of-life care, we respond to the needs of each and every individual.
What you’ll be doing:
- You’ll responsible and accountable for physiotherapy assessments and treatment of highly complex neurological conditions.
- Participate in collecting and analysing clinical audit data and use of relevant outcome measure, carry out clinical risk assessments and complete risk management plans.
- Advise on mobility and manual handling devices and positioning equipment for residents, and document recommendations and guidance accordingly.
- Identify and source specialist equipment for all residents with complex physical needs; ensuring all therapy equipment is well maintained, clean and safe to use.

The Speech and Language Therapist will provide support to the Therapy Lead, demonstrating leadership when managing specific clinical projects. You will be an advocate of the service and promote & support the vision of the service.
What you'll be doing:
- You will provide a specialist SLT service consisting of assessment, differential diagnosis, interpretation, treatment, management and evaluation of outcomes for our residents that have complex neuro-disability resulting in complex communication and swallowing disorders including use of Tracheostomy and ventilators.
- You will devise, plan and regularly review, Speech and Language Therapist related individual personalised therapy programmes for implementation by the Therapy Assistants.
- You will communicate complex condition related information from resident assessments to patients, carers, families and external professionals when required using a range of communication skills to engage effectively.
- You must be committed to maintaining high standards of clinical excellence through ongoing personal and professional development. This includes actively participating in regular training, supervision and reflective practice.
- You will play a key role in promoting a culture of continuous learning and development across the wider Therapy team, ensuring that all team members are supported to engage in professional growth and maintain best practice standards within a Specialist Neurological setting.

This is a developmental role with clear progression pathways and a strong focus on supervision and mentoring. You will work closely with Highly Specialist SLTs and benefit from regular learning opportunities and structured CPD.
